“WE PROCLAIM HIM, ADMONISHING AND TEACHING WITH ALL WISDOM SO WE CAN PRESENT EVERYONE PERFECT IN CHRIST.” COLOSSIANS 1:28
MODULE 5 LESSON 2
Put it Into Practice: Creating a Christian Yoga Class- 1
As discussed, the next four lessons allow us to create a class using all we have learned in Christian Yoga.
Get excited because you will have several class outlines to begin teaching by the end of lesson 5. In other words, you will be thoroughly equipped to teach Christain Yoga! 2 Timothy 3:17
We begin this lesson with an example of how scripture, Christian meditation, and prayer all combine to make one dynamic class.
Example:
Step 1: Select a Scriptural Theme
Select a Scriptural theme from your Master List based on a scripture that was God-inspired.
Scripture theme: Love
Let all that you do be done in love. Proverbs 16:14
Step 2: Open the Class
We open the class with our scriptural theme and apply it to Breath Meditation for 8-10 breaths.
Inhale: Let all that I do
Exhale: Be done in love
Step 3: Pair Prayer to Poses (Prayerful Pose)
Throughout the class, we pair poses to prayer using the same scriptural theme.
Pyramid Pose with Chest Expansion- I bind myself to your love, Oh Lord. Sphinx pose- Jesus, open the eyes of my heart.
Camel Pose- God, I pray that my heart opens to love.
Step 4: As we transition towards the end of our class, we prepare for Final Relaxation (savasana). We utilize the same breath prayer that we opened the class with.
Inhale: Let all that I do
Exhale: Be done in love
Step 5: Finally, we close the class with a heartfelt prayer led by the Spirit.
Father God, thank you for your lavish love. I pray I can love others the way Christ loves me. I pray that all I do is rooted in love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Take Note: Everything from the start of the class to the end is just one of many possibilities. Our teaching is sure to stay fresh with so many options, and our students most assuredly will love the variety.
Now it is your turn to create a class based on the three key elements of Christian yoga.
Let’s begin!
Step 1: Select a Scriptural Theme
Select a Scriptural theme from your Master List based on a scripture that was personally inspired.
Step 2: Open the Class with the scriptural theme selected and weave it into prayer.
Step 3: Pair Poses to “I AM” Statements (derived from your scriptural theme).
Step 4: Final Relaxation: Use “I AM” statements to begin the class’s time in relaxation.
Step 5: Close the class with a devotion that ties into the scriptural theme you selected. The devotion can be written by you or professionally.
Into Action:
Next, write out your class in its entirety, from start to finish. Complete with poses, breathing techniques, cues, etc. Ideally, this would be for the amount of time you are accustomed to teaching (like one hour).
Post a picture of your completed class outline and post it to the PCYTT Facebook group. Label it PCYTT Class Outline 1.
Write or type out your completed class. If you use notes when teaching, you will want to begin to place these notes into one place like a folder, binder, or notebook.
